Sports Programs for Middle/High School Athletes.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS PERFORMANCE WORKOUTS – ages – High School

Open to all high school athletes from Middletown, Portsmouth, and Newport.

Program Focus: Strength, Explosive Power, Conditioning, Flexibility & Injury Reduction.

This program will be ideal for athletes who are preparing for their upcoming season or looking to gain strength in their off-season. We will be incorporating multiple training tools to help educate these young athletes on proper techniques in order to remain safe in the weight room.

It is understood that most high school athletes play two or more sports, or a travel team year-round. With this in mind, each athlete will be able to move at their own speed. If they have a game the next day, we will adjust their individual workout by altering either the weight, reps or exercise as a whole. We will have progressions and regressions for each exercise so all levels of ability are welcome.

We will be meeting twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays) at 5:30 pm. Each session will build on the last, incorporating new techniques and exercises. We understand most have a very busy schedule, so we have built packages with different options that will hopefully fit their schedule. Although it’s not required, it’s highly recommended that the athlete attends as many sessions as possible in order to maximize the benefits.

Each athlete will learn stretches and exercises that they can perform at home that require no equipment. Typically what is seen with athletes who only train once a week, is they “forget” to do the work outside of the gym. However when they dedicate themselves twice a week, for most, it sticks with them more and they actually spend time outside of the gym working on themselves. That is absolutely essential for success, you can’t expect to spend one or two hours in the gym each week and become great.

This is the first time we have offered a program like this. If we experience continued growth with the program, we will separate into a base level, and advanced group. This way we will be able to spend more time going over the fundamentals with the base group, ensuring everyone is progressing at a comfortable speed.

For the past two years, Anthony has worked in the clubhouse for the New York Yankees during spring training in Tampa. During this time he helped with on-field drills and working closely with the players. Since moving back to Rhode Island, he has assisted in the weight room at Salve Regina, while beginning his company Island Athletics. Over the past 6 months, he and his staff have worked with over 200 youth athletes, helping them prepare for their upcoming seasons.

“After leaving the island for college, I realized how much time and effort was spent on developing youth athletes in other parts of the country. We have a major gap here, and I want to do everything I can to help prepare these athletes before they leave for college”
